Member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, MP Duha Al-Qusayr, ruled out any government inclination toward implementing a financial austerity policy in Iraq, emphasizing that the country possesses robust economic capabilities and a strategic reserve capable of absorbing and managing the current exceptional circumstances.
In televised statements, Al-Qusayr explained that the economic impacts resulting from the repercussions of the current regional situation may last for a period ranging from two to three months, but she expects them to be overcome thanks to available resources.
On the domestic front, Al-Qusayr called for the urgent need to review the "employee salary scale" to ensure financial and professional justice among workers across various ministries and state institutions. She revealed the existence of a supportive parliamentary base ready to pass and approve the amendments as soon as the government sends the law to parliament.
Regarding oversight and anti-corruption, the Integrity Committee member issued stern warnings about the phenomenon of "selling positions," describing it as the main gateway that establishes financial and administrative corruption and dismantles the foundations of the state. She pointed to alarming information indicating that financial bargaining for positions has reached lower administrative levels, even including roles such as school administration.
Al-Qusayr concluded her statements by announcing her full support for imposing strict legal measures that compel all political parties and entities to accurately disclose their financial assets and funding sources, in a step aimed at enhancing the principles of transparency and integrity within the Iraqi political landscape.
