In a move aimed at diversifying export routes, the Iraqi Council of Ministers announced in an official statement that it has authorized the CEO of the Basra Oil Company to sign a joint memorandum of understanding between the Iraqi Ministry of Oil and the Syrian Ministry of Energy.
Objectives of the Iraqi-Syrian Pipeline Project:
Connecting Iraqi oil production to global export markets via Mediterranean ports.
Diversifying the routes and outlets for crude oil exports.
Enhancing the flexibility of Iraqi oil exports and reducing total reliance on current maritime outlets.
Investing in the Akkas Gas Field in Al Anbar Governorate
In terms of developing the natural gas sector, the Council of Ministers agreed to authorize the Minister of Oil, Bassem Mohammed Khudhair, to sign a memorandum of understanding with a global consortium comprising a select group of major companies, namely:
ConocoPhillips
TI Capital
Novater
This memorandum aims to immediately commence discussions to evaluate exploration and development opportunities in the Akkas gas field and its surrounding areas in Al Anbar Governorate, which will contribute to meeting the country's clean energy needs.
Multi-Billion Dollar Contracts and U.S. Partnerships to Develop the Oil and Gas Sector
These accelerated steps fall under a comprehensive government plan to expand investments in the Iraqi energy sector. These decisions coincide with the Iraqi Ministry of Oil's announcement, made in the middle of last week, regarding the signing of seven major contracts with leading American energy companies.
The total value of these contracts has exceeded $200 billion and includes strategic partnerships with industry giants such as:
Chevron
Halliburton
KBR/KGM
Schlumberger
These massive investments focus on developing advanced oil and gas projects and enhancing Iraq's production capacity to solidify its position as a key player in the global energy market.
