On National Day: Prime Minister Affirms the Completion of National Sovereignty and Steers the Government Towards Comprehensive Economic Development

On the occasion of the 94th anniversary of the National Day of the Republic of Iraq, Prime Minister Mr. Ali Al-Zaidi delivered an official speech in which he affirmed the completion of the country's sovereignty, coinciding with the end of the International Coalition's military mission on September 30, 2026. His Excellency stressed that Iraq today possesses its independent national decision-making and protects its resources, with the security apparatus completely under the authority of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

In his speech, the Prime Minister recalled the milestone of Iraq's independence on October 3, 1932, as the first Arab state to join the League of Nations, highlighting the country's deep civilizational legacy as the cradle of writing and laws. He also addressed the path of democratic transition since 2003 and the sacrifices made to consolidate the peaceful transfer of power.

On the economic and developmental front, which represents a fundamental pillar of the state's vision for the upcoming phase, the Prime Minister outlined the government's plan to confront regional and international economic challenges. This includes empowering the private sector, diversifying economic sources, and linking government spending to effective outcomes. He announced a package of major strategic projects, most notably:

  • The "Development Road" Project: To transform Iraq into a global energy corridor, an international investment hub, and a commercial bridge connecting the East and West.

  • Economic Cities: Establishing integrated economic zones to support local and foreign investment.

  • Housing Initiative: Launching a project comprising one million residential plots of land.

  • Generations Fund: Establishing a sovereign wealth fund to secure the financial future of upcoming generations.

Al-Zaidi concluded his speech by reaffirming the ongoing efforts to combat corruption and protect public funds, as well as Iraq's commitment to a balanced foreign policy based on mutual respect and shared interests. He called for national solidarity to transition the country from crisis management to a phase of building the future and establishing a strong, just state.
