Iraqi Ministry of Trade Announces the Securing and Readiness of Grain Silos for the Rainy Season

The Iraqi Ministry of Trade announced the completion of all preventive measures to secure grain storage facilities and silos across various governorates, confirming the readiness of these facilities to protect crops from anticipated weather fluctuations and climatic conditions with the onset of the rainy season.

A Proactive Plan to Safeguard Food Security

The Director General of the Grain Board of Iraq, Haider Nouri Al-Garaawi, explained that technical teams began implementing a comprehensive organizational plan in mid-September across various storage sites (silos, bunkers, and standard warehouses). The initiative ensures that all stockpiled quantities are fully covered and shielded from moisture and weather elements.

Al-Garaawi noted that the precautionary measures taken prevent any adverse effects of weather fluctuations on stored supplies, highlighting the plan's core pillars:

  • Preempting the Rainy Season: Adopting an early operational plan rolled out annually ahead of rainfall—a protocol successfully implemented for the fourth consecutive year.

  • Comprehensive Fortification: Equipping facilities with insulating materials designed to resist rainwater and withstand high temperatures simultaneously.

  • Strategic Reserve Stability: Fully maintaining the integrity and safety of grain stocks to bolster the sustainability and stability of the national food reserve without incurring logistical losses.
