International Energy Agency Releases 325 Million Barrels from its Strategic Reserves to Contain Market Fluctuations

The Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih Birol, announced the release of approximately 325 million barrels of oil reserves as part of the collective measures adopted by the agency on March 11. This released volume represents more than 80% of the total quantities pledged by the agency to support the stability of global markets.

This exceptional step comes in response to current geopolitical challenges, specifically the tensions that have disrupted commercial navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, which serves as the most critical artery for global oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) flows.

These disruptions in supply chains have cast a shadow over energy markets, resulting in an increase in global fuel prices. This strategic intervention by the agency aims to mitigate the economic repercussions and ensure the continuity of supply security in the face of ongoing tensions in the region.
