Vessel-tracking and maritime data have revealed that the first tanker carrying Russian fuel is en route to U.S. ports, marking a surprising shift in global energy trade following announced understandings between Moscow and U.S.President Donald Trump.
Shipment Details and Route Maritime monitoring platforms showed that the medium-range tanker "Agioi Fanendes",sailing under the Maltese flag, was loaded with approximately 40,000 metric tons of ultra-low-sulfur diesel (ULSD) at the Baltic Sea port of Primorsk. Her expected arrival date on the U.S. coast is set for November 7.
Although the identities of the supplier and importer have not been officially disclosed, the cargo represents the first of its kind to enter the U.S. market since the previous administration imposed a comprehensive ban on Russian energy imports in 2022.
Terms of Understanding Between Washington and Moscow The shipment comes amid President Trump's efforts to ease energy prices and curb rising domestic fuel costs ahead of the midterm elections. The phased supply plan includes several stages:
Phase One (Immediate): Exporting 300,000 metric tons (approx. 2.25 million barrels) to the market.
Phase Two (November): Shipping an additional 500,000 metric tons to bolster global supply.
Subsequent Phase: Injecting up to 1 million metric tons to balance the market.
For his part, the Russian presidential spokesperson confirmed the departure of the first fuel tanker under this agreement, without providing official details regarding its direct final destination.
