Foreign Minister: Iraq Proposes a New Plan to Restrict Weapons with Coalition Withdrawal, and We Seek to Exempt Iranian Aviation from Sanctions

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed that the Iraqi government will introduce a new plan regarding the file of restricting weapons to the state, coinciding with the scheduled final withdrawal date of the International Coalition forces on September 30.

Details of the Weapons Restriction File and the Withdrawal In statements carried by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Hussein explained that Iraq will begin a completely new phase once the departure of the coalition forces is completed. He stressed that "the issue of handing over weapons is a purely internal Iraqi matter, and that dialogues and negotiations are ongoing with faction leaders in this regard," according to a renewed timeline to address this file.

Economic Repercussions and the Flight Ban Crisis On the economic and regional front, the Foreign Minister pointed out that the Iraqi economy is considered the primary victim of the ongoing conflict and the repercussions of the ongoing Iran war.

Regarding the aviation sector crisis, Hussein indicated that Baghdad has officially informed the Iranian side about the imposed flight ban. He affirmed the Iraqi government's intention to hold extensive discussions with the United States to explore the possibility of exempting certain services provided to Iranian aviation in a manner that does not conflict with the imposed sanctions.
