Economic Expert: Central Bank Claims on the Government Jump to 66.6 Trillion Dinars Amid Noticeable Decline in Reserves

Manar Al-Obaidi, economic expert and head of the "Future Iraq" Foundation for Economic Studies and Consultations, revealed significant shifts and a noticeable decline in the financial indicators of the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI). He highlighted a surge in the bank's net claims on the government, coupled with a tangible decrease in the volume of official reserves.

In an economic analysis based on the latest operational and banking data, Al-Obaidi explained that the Central Bank's net claims on the Iraqi government recorded a massive jump, reaching 66.6 trillion Iraqi dinars, up from the 35 trillion dinars recorded in early 2025.

Regarding reserves, the economic expert noted that the CBI's net official reserves witnessed a clear drop, settling at 102 trillion Iraqi dinars, compared to the 130 trillion dinars recorded at the beginning of the current year, 2026.

The foundation's head pointed out that last July alone saw a sharp decline, with the Central Bank losing approximately 10.3 trillion dinars from its total foreign and banking reserves.
