Controversy in Saladin Following Administrative Decisions and Public Demands to Guarantee Freedom of Expression

Saladin Governorate is witnessing widespread local and public reactions against the backdrop of a series of administrative and investment decisions recently issued by the local administration. These measures—which included removals from certain administrative posts and proposals to tender the presidential palace complexes for investment—have triggered a wave of debate and criticism across media platforms.

Following these events, the Legal Committee at the Governorate’s Diwan pursued legal action by filing formal complaints against several media figures and bloggers. This led security authorities to enforce measures that included summonses and the detention of some activists.

In a related context, dozens of journalists, activists, and prominent figures staged a solidarity rally in Tikrit, urging senior government authorities to intervene promptly to end the legal proceedings. Participants in the demonstration emphasized the importance of upholding Article 38 of the Iraqi Constitution, which guarantees freedom of opinion and expression, stressing that constructive criticism aims to improve institutional performance and carries no personal bias.
